What is Humane Technology

What is humane technology. A large number of the technologies we use are to some extent operational. (I need to know after writing many avoidance guidelines like Google and Facebook!) Humanized technology is an ideal that aims to create socially responsible technology that doesn’t use users. This is a noble idea, and is becoming increasingly important as our dependence on various forms of technology increases.

-> The Center for Humane Technology (CHT) was co-founded by Tristan Harris, who previously promoted the “Good Time” movement after initially working for Google, where he did an internal presentation in 2013. Respect users. Together with Google, he checked the names of Apple and Facebook, emphasizing their responsibility to users. While CHT is free to admit that social networks and mobile technologies benefit to some extent, they also raise issues that are beginning to affect society on a larger scale. This includes:

Digital Addiction

Many people are addicted to technology, and digital slot machines exacerbate the problem.

Mental health

Digital dependence and increased use of social media can have a negative impact on mental health.

False of Truth

It’s getting harder and harder to determine what’s real and what’s not, especially if you spend a lot of time online.

Polarization

Has it become more difficult to collaborate with others because of the ideological polarization of the internet?

Political Manipulation

This is because it creates division and sows doubt, or because society directly influences elections.

Superficiality

By focusing on looks and preferences, are we becoming shallower?

These problems demonstrate the “incompatibility of our human sensibilities and the exponentially growing power of technology,” a problem that may increase in the future. Harris disappeared nearly a year after the Time Well Sent movement failed to revive; accusing the language he uses, he turns to calling the process “human demotion.” The organization is now raising “the consciousness of millions of people by advising and mobilizing technology companies, top managers, investors, technologists, and political leaders.”

-> Many tech companies don’t seem impressed with Harris’s idea. In the UK, Facebook and Google have not banned political advertising on their platforms, despite the fact that Twitter did so voluntarily during the 2019 election. Nonetheless, CHT makes a number of reasonable points and plans to lobby for further regulation of the use of technology manipulation techniques by users.

Instead of exploiting our vulnerabilities, there are many ways in which technology can be used to improve society as well as the overall quality of life. It’s still a small movement, but hopefully humane technology will thrive in the years to come.
