Known as a major e-commerce retailer, there are arguments for that Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd. (BABA) was among the most important software companies in China. Founded in 1999 by a group of entrepreneurs led by Jack Ma, a former English teacher from Hangzhou, the company aims to help Chinese small and medium-sized businesses sell their products both domestically and globally.
Called “Amazon of China”, Alibaba develops and implements digital technologies that facilitate online transactions. This includes mobile commerce infrastructure, cloud computing, logistics platforms and performance networks.

Shenzhen Tencent Holdings Ltd. (TCEHY) operates as an investment company focused on online advertising, technology and ancillary services. The company offers online games and mobile games, as well as many online and mobile applications. Tencent is also a Chinese social media giant. Its WeChat messaging app required more than 1.25 billion monthly users in the second quarter of 2021.
