Trying to play Wordle this is not my bag, I confess.

My ideal is daily Wordle the session begins with me pulling out of the stream of consciousness a legible five-letter combination and seeing where this random assumption will lead me.

Game becomes a kind of linguistic The magic eye at this point: when I weaken my attention and look the past the initial assumption is to imagine all the words that can be formed from any yellow or green letter, I will eventually find the answer. Or not! And that’s okay, I’m fine with losing.

Some people like to win under any circumstances, and I understand that. It’s nice to maintain this daily band, especially when it turns into double digits and beyond.

Of course, you can always cheat and find the answer, but there is no sense of duty. Gaming Wordle is the only pleasant environment, and the best place to find this comfort zone is the initial strategy of words.

So let’s sort it out. There are a lot of thoughts on the internet.

As we should think Wordle starting word strategies?

Let’s first think about this holistically. You have 26 letters in the alphabet. Of these, five (and sometimes the letter “Y”) are vowels, the main building block for most words.

So, at the simplest level is any five-letter combination that will help you eliminate more vowels early is going to cut a galaxy of possible answers.

Four times Wordle: Accept the chaos along with the Quordle of the four

With this basic reality in mind, we can choose a few ideal starting words at once. There are others, however ADIEU, AUDIOand OUIJA all cover four vowels. You won’t know if the yellow or green letters are twice the, say, “sweet” or “radar” answer, but you can at least highlight a few critical letters right at the beginning.

That’s enough for most people. Starting with heavy vowels, you get the advantage Wordlesolves puzzles every time. But it’s also not easy, because not every letter is created the same. Yes, vowels appear in almost every word, but some are more or less found. The same goes for consonants.

There are also Wordle dictionary. There are more than 10,000 words that the game will recognize as plausible assumptions, but there is a much smaller list of words – only a few thousand – that qualify as possible solutions. The NYT even shortened this list of solutions after he acquired Wordle. So far you are could use a more obscure word like AUR (plural form goldenancient Roman gold coin, for those who are curious!), assuming this will not be the answer of the day.

If the set of vowels is not enough and you want to cover some of the most common consonants, RAISE is an ideal initial word because it covers the three most common vowels and the two most common consonants as they appear in dictionaries.

What’s better Wordle initial word, right?

For those who don’t want to take risks, feeling cheated Wordle, you can stop reading here. You can use the above strategies and ways of thinking to give yourself an edge in the daily new puzzle, and that’s enough for most players.

However, for those who want to dive deeper into the rabbit hole, there is a great video Grant Sanderson, a mathematician and computer scientist called 3Blue1Brown on YouTube. Sanderson applied his knowledge of “information theory”. Wordleand he coded some test programs that measure things like letter frequency to determine the best of the best initial words.

It’s 30-minute dense explanations that are difficult for math, but Sanderson’s friendly demeanor and willingness to spend the time needed to break down complex ideas for viewers make it an exciting watch.

In this original Sanderson video (you didn’t think it would be as simple as one video, did you?), The final takeaway leaves us CRANE as the best Wordle initial word. But it’s not that simple. Because Sanderson’s breakdown focuses on the frequency of letters, CRANE this is only the first stage of gathering information. It’s only “best” if you use what you know about the right and wrong letters in this first word to inform about the perfect other guess what.

Аххххххххххххххххххххххххххххх. Is your head already floating? Do you want to just knock after the first chapter ?? That’s where I am! But wait, we’re not even done yet.

A week after the aforementioned video, Sanderson released another one called “Oh wait, actually the best tool for opening Wordle is not a ‘tap’ …” It turned out there was a small bug in his original test program. He immediately says that the error “affects a very small percentage of cases”, so it does not undermine the essential lessons from the first video.

Without going into difficult mathematics, the error applies precisely to solutions that have multiples of the same letter, and how Wordle copes with it.

Sanderson felt the need to publish a second video because, although “very little significant change” compared to the original video, the final conclusion concerns the optimal opening word there is affected. The same caveat as before applies here: the optimal initial word is as good as it is good, as the following assumption uses information obtained from the first.

Given this context, Sanderson’s ideal initial word is altered SALET (which is an alternative spelling for “salet”, a type of helmet worn in the Middle Ages #themoreyouknow), though NEXT and CAGE work almost too. Especially since both of these latter options are potential Wordle solutions.

Honestly, one of the most important conclusions from all these dives into mathematical rabbit holes is the concept I mentioned above: your first assumption is strong only in the context of the following assumptions. That’s all game with Wordle in the end: one assumption gives you the information you will need to use to narrow down the list of subsequent assumptions.

But! (Yes, we’re not done yet.) There’s another school of thought on how to approach the solution Wordle. Instead of playing the game as intended, and using each previous guess to report the next, you instead follow the game with a frequency of letters and try to exclude the most common letters, consonants and vowels as before, no matter which hint you choose up.

This approach effectively “spends” your initial assumptions on blocked options that are designed to narrow down the number of possible letters you need to work with. Just know when you are playing Wordle in “hard mode” this strategy will not work, as each subsequent assumption must include any letters that are confirmed in the solution of the previous guess.

Is there a better one Wordle a source word that isn’t that hard to fit for all the math?

How chief commentator in Sanderson’s original video it is legendary: “Interesting video, really good things. I will continue to use the PENIS, but it was really cool and informative!”

For those who want to skip the long and winding road to a mathematical country, YouTuber Bentellect has a short, cute analysis of its starting strategy.

So here it is ROLLING first, then TREATthen HAPPINESS. That’s all. With these three options you will reduce the list of possible letters to such an extent that figuring out a solution with your final assumptions will become much easier. This is not a reliable winning strategy for the daily puzzle. I’m not sure it is, and even if it is, knowing it will significantly disrupt the game.

Own Mashable Wordle expert Caitlin Welsh prefers another starting combination of three words: SHELL, DAIUNIKand THORN. But the premise is the same: Caitlin, like Bentelect, narrows down the list of possible letters that may appear in the solution, throwing as wide a grid as possible, speaking alphabetically, with her first three assumptions.

So you have. There is no one perfect starting to guess for Wordle. There is a whole range of them along with a long list of warnings that basically boil down to the following: How much do you want to break the game? I said this at the beginning and I will say it again: the flow of consciousness is the way. Use Wordle like me, as a meditative brain to relax those thinking muscles at the beginning of your day.

However, for those who want to win at all costs, we hope this is an extended statement of what works the best this will bring you closer to the fact that the daily bar is three digits.
