It’s outrageous that this is where the journey gets tough, how close it should be to mustangs, we’ve put a pony on it. Let’s call it a Mustang. Is it a close cousin? Is it a sibling? It was exhilarating, but it also terrified me because you are grappling with the crown jewels that consumers at one of our research clinics said were you crazy about the heart of the company that is on trial here for that brand is so valuable
I was absolutely convinced that it is not a Mustang because it is not possible for me. ‘I may have broken the Mustang promise when I saw it was going to be an off-road vehicle. You have to change Ford’s future trajectory. You have to create a new symbol. I think everyone’s the first scared ford takes the coop away we’re not the coop ‘There’s a new horse in the stable that really lit a fire among us because it’s one thing to have a bit of design language. It’s another thing to say that it wears the pony that has the Mustang emblem on, people will know what it is on hat shirts because that emblem is legendary as soon as we refer to it as the Mustang. Everyone has redoubled their efforts.
Here’s what I could get into. This is what I could still do. Can we do that We started with the exterior than you think of all the classic buzzwords and the styling of the different Mustangs over the years. The long hood that the muscles have, slaps and muscles the lines that cut through almost like tendons, so if you’re imprinted on your brain you need that curved roofline, the tri-bar lights, all of that is there, but in a really modern, really fluid, unique way.
It looks so powerful that you know it moves when it stands still and then we got inside and said the same thing about how much impact it should have from historical mustangs and how much it should have one foot that strong in the future Should be that balance was one of the hardest things for the whole team, the exterior needs to be instantly recognizable as a Mustang, but inside the vehicle we wanted to signal that this is new. This is the future. Mustang is the feeling of the leather steering wheel in your hands. It’s the smell of the Mustang in the interior that brings that passion and power to a segment that’s super super boring and I wanted to be a spaceship I wanted to be something that no one had seen or experienced before Mustang was a first-person car is. It’s about me.
It’s forbearance. This is a small car that you would like to experience these things with your family spouse and so we wanted the interior to have an open, spacious feel but still have the key lines that make it a Mustang. You know a lot of people reach an age when they love Mustangs, but they also have kids and it’s not the most practical choice for this vehicle to accommodate your family. It is going to be great. Our team is working to listen to the customers and to work with the product development team on how this can be combined in such a way that the expectations of the customers that we do not meet are truly met.
I don’t want it to be a science project. Our direction was more towards creating this iconic Mustang product that really delves deep into the legacy of Mustang colors and materials. So we’ve gone through every finish you can think of because it’s the combination between future and future to make it electric, but you gotta keep it too Mustang electrification is so much more than just an electric motor that we can remix it, what kind of car this product will be, like a technology tour to force this. We bring performance and eco-friendliness together in a vehicle in a way we’ve never done before, having convinced ourselves analytically that we had all the ingredients to deliver a Mustang spirit that we had to test when If you were to design a brand new vehicle, you’d have to torture these things in a way that would simply blow most people away; heads, but they have to be sturdy, it has to be real, and it has to be able to carry the pony that I flew to North Carolina where we have a simulator and I told the team this is a mustang better to drive like this It was a huge moment for the program team when I got out of the simulator. Everyone was waiting to hear what I would say. I looked at the entire team and said it.

This vehicle will surprise people. After 40 years with this company, I have to tell you, ‘I’m thrilled that the vehicle is being called a Mustang.
