Do you need a hub or dock?

There is a gray area between the USB hubs and the docks, as they technically do (basically) the same thing: add more ports and connectors to the computer. However, there are some small differences and you should understand them before you buy.

USB hubs these are smaller and cheaper keys that can add extra USB ports, SD card readers, display outputs or a headphone jack. They often do not provide additional power, which means you will not be able to charge the gadgets connected to them. They are also portable enough to put them in a laptop bag so you can use them at home and on the go.

USB sticks often larger, more expensive and designed to spend most of your time at your desk. They often come with their own power supply, so they can charge other devices, and also have multiple monitor outputs and Ethernet connections. If you frequently use your laptop at the table, the docking station allows you to quickly connect it to a keyboard, mouse, monitor and any other peripheral that you need at the same time.
